  • In memory of the glorious past of Crotone stands in an elevated position this expansive Castle overlooking the sea. Free entry offers a nice view over the city. To see inside a tiny Museum equally.

  • Crotone is a city almost completely flat; Venturing further, however, in the old part, just behind the Cathedral, narrow climb upwards until you reach piazza castello, where are mansions belonged to noble families. In the central part, still slightly uphill, it has a large gate of ancient structure, after which a stone bridge leads, via a steep stretch to the parade ground of the Castle. Here you can admire, as a sign of the past, several carriages and cannonballs around are appreciated from above the port, the sea until Capocolonna and different parts of the city. Clearly visible towards the corners the various towers. There is a small museum and the municipal library. Various exhibitions and shows are held here during the summer. Succeeding from the door, through a gate, you can enter the villa comunale, which is always placed in a part of the Castle and falls a bit at a time on the road. To get an idea of the size of the structure you have to follow the trend of imposing walls that, after leaving the villa, along a long stretch of waterfront, back to the city center. The castle is the first educational institution for elementary and, not far away, for the interest of tourists the archaeological museum; all this deserves a separate review.

  • Walk though, starting at the Center, a long uphill. The castle itself is nice, with a moat, open late, but uncared for.

  • Alias Castle of Charles V, as fortified by the King's Spanish espresso, the mighty castle of Crotone was a rudimentary Byzantine fortress built on the ancient Greek Acropolis, in defense of the surrounding area. Over the centuries, the successive dominations following one another, brought substantial changes to the Manor to make them look defensive in relation with the new techniques of warfare of the period. The first mention of the castle of Crotone date back to the Byzantine period. But the current structure of the castle of Crotone was designed by the architect Gian Giacomo of Achaia, which on behalf of the Spanish Viceroy Don Pedro of Toledo, built during the reign of Charles V, one of the most powerful and daring military fortresses of Italy.
