  • Starting from the city centre and follow the signs we stumbled on a climb that would not even to my best enemy. Even though it was winter and or day it was not warm, undertaking the journey we made a sweaty amazing, really tiring so much that you just want to surrender for several times. But pushed by now itching to get to the top we continued arriving in the pitch of the chapel. From the outside it looks like a church impotent, breathtaking views all around. It is the highest part of cortona where you can admire the entire Valley and Lake Trasimeno. The effort has been rewarded by the panorama, but found out it is also accessible by car! For next time definitely will go on in the car, climbing is definitely for those who are trained.

  • A grand space enhanced by the organ music playing when we entered. High above the town of Cortona, there's plenty of parking and a spectacular view. You can walk down into the town through the winding...  more »
  • It is not a derogatory term and irreverent one I used; It's just the term affectionate and familiar used by cortonesi to pray or tell them Santa that occurs inside the sanctuary dedicated to her in her earthly remains for obvious reasons very diminished. Sanctuary in contrast with the remains of Santa Margherita which is displayed in all its pompositá and magnificence. The outside has nothing special apart from the beautiful natural setting of the position overlooking the val di chiana, the Interior is very scenic paintings and load and truly opulent. Religiously is perhaps at odds with poverty preached by Friars and Daisy but architecturally is really nice

  • It's a steep climb through Cortona's streets to reach the basilica (if you don't drive up to it). The rewards aren't extraordinary since the architecture and art within aren't breathtaking. But the walk and the visit make for a pleasant experience, enhanced by sweeping views along the way.
  • Very impressive church and the views from up here are wonderful! Definitely worth the climb.
  • Small church located beside the old city walls and with a superb sight of the Tuscan landscape
  • No highlights
  • The Basilica is located at the foot of the castle of grifalco and has a very nice view over the Valley. The basilica has a painted ceiling. This parking lot in front of the basilica.
