Averau, Cortina d'Ampezzo

5.0
#5 of 8 in Nature in Cortina d'Ampezzo
Averau is the highest mountain of the Nuvolau Group in the Dolomites, located in the Province of Belluno, northern Italy. It lies between the Falzarego Pass and the Giau Pass. The mountain is usually climbed from its northern face, which is less steep than its other faces, by the Averau ferrata. The view from the summit takes in many of the Dolomitic giants, including Monte Civetta, Monte Pelmo, Antelao and Sorapiss.

Access from the 5 towers or by the chairlift which attached the Averau refuge. then beautiful on the site of the five towers with view panoramic view on the surrounding peaks. Easy climb but that rises to the shelter nuovelau for a 360 view. Tour of Mount requires material of via ferrata

Beautiful dolomite group, accessible from various places with various hiking and commitment that deserves to enjoy a day: you achieve it calmly, along not challenging trail that winds from Falzarego pass beneath the Col Gallina and Croda Negra, Averau forked over the pass, at the foot of the southern wall continuing Averau. Maybe toss in a nod to rock flowing alongside, candida dolomite with paper thin horizontal stripes: the trace of foils and sheets of algal mats grown on each other--Yes, those on which it slips on the pier-and turned into rock. Quick fork Nuvolao chaos with his bypassed rifugione-restaurant, incongruously perched within a lunar landscape and in the middle of a spectacular panorama, and that surely reflects the choice of being a restaurant before a refuge: reachable too easily with the chair lift from passo Giau, for the usual hit-and-run tourism which has nothing to do with the mountain; for this, I cannot say on local: I quickly fled. Stop by anyway and get something to eat-the hut or round, lunches-and spread to the top of the climb is short coffee: Nuvolao and smoother, along a large tabular State surface and tilted, and the view from the top is not to be missed. The green of the Giau pass down the bottom, the Lunar rocks of Lastoni by Formin and Croda da Lago in front of the fork with the Averau refuge behind under, and northward throughout the surrounding mountains of Cortina, from the Tofane to the Cadore ... perhaps one of the best views in this area of the Dolomites. Recommended, lastly, descent by diverting to the Limides pond, still mirror nestled among the pines, that reflects the surrounding peaks.
