Villa Manin, Codroipo

(300+ reviews on the web)
Art Museum Historic Site
Begun in the 16th century by noble Friulian Antonio Manin, Villa Manin is a sprawling complex made up of a huge villa, ornate marble chapel, and more. Today, the villa's 350 rooms house permanent exhibits on antique carriages, armor, period furniture, and historic art. The walls and ceilings are covered in frescoes by 18th-century artists like Ludovico Dorigny, Amigoni Jacopo, and Pietro Oretti, and the rooms house Fontebasso paintings and Torretti sculptures. The Chamber of Napoleon--where the emperor stayed and signed the Treaty of Campoformido--is also open to visitors. Traveling exhibits of both contemporary and ancient art stop here, and you can often catch a concert as well.
