Pomposa Abbey Reviews

Appare al'orizzonte nel paesaggio delle foci del Po, l'alto campanile si vede di lontano. The Abbey is ancient and its origins are lost in the Longobard era, when the first monastic community settled in what was then an island, but what we see today was built starting from the 9th century. In the Middle Ages it was the Centre of dissemination of culture thanks to the monks and scribes here Guido d'arezzo stared at the first music notation that originated the current one, giving names to the seven notes from the initial syllables of the verses of a hymn to John the Baptist written by Paulus diaconus. In addition to the beautiful church is also worth visiting the adjacent Museum, housed in the buildings of the former monastery's dormitory, collects valuable archaeological remains and artifacts which testify of the phases and the first arredti of the Abbey.

Prachtig klooster met klokkentoren, omgang en kloostertuin. Prachtige fresco's, vloeren. Ligt op de weg tussen Ravenna en Venetië en wij waren er in de buurt maar ik zou er ook voor omrijden. more »Magnificent monastery with clock tower, handling and monastery garden. Beautiful frescoes, floors. Lies on the road between Ravenna and Venice and we were there in the neighborhood but I would also go out of their way.
Beautiful Abbey, off the beaten track. We visited this abbey on our way from Venice to Rimini. It's an amazing stop. The tower of the abbey is impressive when you walk up to it. The frescoes inside are awesome and the floor is very beautiful. Try to find some time to visit this abbey.
Spartaco BaldelliBeautiful place and steeped in history. The ancient Abbey in the late Romanesque style, is full of symbols and allegories that will delight any fan of the genre. A little less, too many baskets for offerings around every corner of the building after the entrance ticket, give an idea of commodification which I am sure does not fall precisely in the spirit of the place. In any case, grounds and buildings are well kept and maintained by the excellent restoration of yesteryear and the view from the tower is beautiful.
Michele MaioneAnd the Romea definitely must stop at Pomposa, is not an ancient Romanesque church, the Foundation of the 6th century, 9th-10th century Romanesque. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful colored bowls narthex added the bunches and the racemes between bricks and animals apotropoaici, inside opus sectile. Magnbifico the belfry and the Park, and we are in the land of Byzantium, and among the Lombards in Emilia
Ruggero fruscaPleasant place where you can breathe the perfume of the time. Impressive Abbey with rich mosaic floors and a lovely Interior frescoes. Well worth a visit!
Luca BorsettoImportant piece of history to visit. Very good and ample parking. Avoid weekends, often crowded
