After the visit of the Abbey of San Galgano hopped for in short path to get to this Hermitage where tells the story that a Knight conficcó his sword into the crack of a rock as a symbol to leave his former life is enjoyable even this visit. Some say that here was born the idea for the Disney film the sword in the stone I like to think it's the truth

Hermitage of Montesiepi is a small complex dating back to the 11th century, inside which there is the sword in the stone, i.e. the sword that a young Knight hurled, in repudiation of violence, on a rock, leaving it tucked almost to the hilt, forming a cross. If you are lovers of these legends then it is worth visiting the place (who has access and free parking just below the entrance), otherwise you may be disappointed with the bare walls of the Church and by the sword itself. In addition there is to visit the Abbey of San Galgano, a few meters from here.

Very nice, historian and only the sword in the stone, for that would be 5 on 5. The sword, I understand the need to preserve by rude tourists that they touch it or even try to remove it, but a shrine so Matt does not allow pictures or to see her well. I also find the gift shop and the Lady inside very out of place and a little sour.

  • This the place where the sword still sticks in a stone. Maybe the origin of King Arthur's sword tale.
  • A must visit in this place began the Hermitage of San Galgano Guidotti, young Knight of nearby Siena, who decided to put an end to a life of violence by planting his sword in a rock and venerating in it the Mystic cross of Passion. The structure combines different types of architectural and artistic territory. Beautiful, magical.
