Villa Medicea di Cerreto Guidi, Cerreto Guidi

(4.3/5 based on 60 reviews on the web)
Once a home to the powerful Medici family, the World Heritage-listed Villa Medicea di Cerreto Guidi features an extensive collection of village artifacts and serves as the focal point of the surrounding town. Originally finished in the 16th century as a hunting lodge, the mansion boasts elaborate brick staircases, a stately exterior, and lush grounds. Stop by the villa and explore the on-site museum documenting the history of hunting in the region. However, it's the mystery surrounding the death of Isabella de Medici that really put this place in the public eye: legend has it that her vengeful ghost still haunts the mansion. Our Cerreto Guidi vacation planner makes visiting Villa Medicea di Cerreto Guidi and other Cerreto Guidi attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Beautiful villa medicea, with interesting artwork but especially with a wonderful view of the surrounding hills and a Wisteria from record! Then the visit is free!

  • Founded as a hunting lodge, has a more rude than other Medici residences, but the recent re-layout, with a rich collection of paintings and many exhibits related to hunting and territory the enhances greatly. Well maintained and cared for, has witnessed the death of Isabella de ' Medici, daughter of Cosimo I, first Grand Duke of Tuscany.

  • The villa, nicely landscaped and with free admission (although a small donation is appreciated, with a receipt, the Association that manages the staff that welcomes and offers explanations on request), I think it's just a missed opportunity. There are unnumbered explanatory panels, from which it is not always easy to retrieve the logical order of explanation, but especially for me was complicated to understand what exactly was exposed in the halls and in the cases. It is true that there are plastic coated sheets with numbers and captions, but the same numbers do not find themselves alongside the works ... In conclusion, perhaps deserves to pay a small entrance fee but try to organize it better or with more rationality on much of this material that might as well be better understood and admired. Very nice garden, green and well cared for despite the cold winter season.
