  • the castle of Celano following the restoration which was carried out by reconstructing the ancient structure, thanks to the abundant photographic repertoire, takes on the appearance of the medieval fortress with defensive function of the town of Celano, as evidenced by the reveal of the Southeast side, which in later centuries was modified in Renaissance Manor House. The walls are interrupted by eleven towers to shield and five roundabouts. Indoors by a drawbridge that overcomes a moat, one enters the castle through two entrances, one of which is protected from a storm drain. The central building has regular plan, rectangular with four square towers at the corners, with Ghibelline battlements, which protect a courtyard with a well in the Middle, once lintel, to collect rainwater. Outside of the four towers around ronda also scalloped edge allowed the guards control of each side of the walls. However the slight protrusion of the towers from the profile of the building, which does not allow an adequate flanking shot, suggests that, with the Acclozamora, the ancient defensive function of the fortress, has faded from the prestigious stately home. The perimeter of the courtyard is embellished by a portico of Renaissance character on two floors, the lower one with ogive arches supported by vast pillars colonniformi, and the upper one with double number of arches with smaller columns. The porch on all four sides, is unparalleled in the region and "must be considered one of the primary Italian examples like"

  • Nice to get lost in the streets of this ancient village, dwelling in the main square, the Church of San Francesco, and the Archangel Michael below the Castle, or even in the most central and attended St. John the Baptist. Arrived at the Castle, not to be missed, and the view that can be admired from here across the plain of Avezzano are beautiful!

  • The village easily accessible and very cute ... a walk through its narrow streets is a must, where you can breathe the wonderful scent of various furnaces around the country. Very cute even churches, fortunately they were all open. For a trip outside is definitely advisable. The only sore point is the Town Hall: a modern structure that destroys all the harmony.
