Duomo di Cefalu, Cefalu

4.3
Built after a vow made by the King of Sicily Roger II, Duomo di Cefalu is a Roman Catholic cathedral constructed in the Norman style. The basilica's fortress-like appearance looms over the medieval town, heralding the powerful presence of the Normans and the city's vulnerability to attack by sea. Pass through a large terraced parvise, or enclosed porch, that was once a cemetery with earth imported from Jerusalem. The spires of the two Norman towers on the cathedral's facade don't match. One symbolizes the papal authority, and the other is a symbol of royal authority. Michele Canzoneri designed the modern, abstract stained-glass windows in 1985. It would be useful to keep it open at night to enjoy after the beach and shopping. Feature the top view of the whole square

A must for anyone who passes from Cefalù. The cathedral stands the imposing from afar over the panorama of the town. The €3 to visit the cloister seemed excessive.

A must see if you are on holiday in Cefalu! Mosaic and silver altar are beautiful. Also great to sit on cathedral steps and enjoy the atmosphere in the square.  more »

  • We had pizzas. They were good but... service is really poor. 25 minutes to get them! And they were half-warm, meaning it's just a question of service, not the cook. No bread to 'wait', whereas in Italy you pay for fork/knife and bread, 2.50€ here (2€ anywhere else in Cefalù with bread). We saw at least 2 other groups of people which left their table because of the long time waiting (angry), and maybe 2 others (maybe they just had a drink?). I've never seen that : they are 4-5 waiters and they can't handle 30 tables (100 people max).
  • Terrible service, ok food This place seems to live off its location. The service is awful. They look at you and don't even acknowledge you've spoken. Then they walk away. Food was ok but nothing special. There are much better places nearby.
  • great place with acceptable prices. Good espresso for 80 cent!
  • Great fresh cannoli at bar duomo for 2 euros each ! Delicious and fresh ! Can't miss it .
  • We had different dishes and both got sick. The waitress was extremely lovely and helpful.
