Duomo di Catania, Catania
(4.4/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
The seat of the Archbishops of Catania, Duomo di Catania has been destroyed--by earthquakes and Mount Elba eruptions--and rebuilt several times through the centuries. The church's foundation is built on top of Roman bathhouse remains and what's left of the fortified church walls. Part of the transept, the two towers, and three apses are the only visible parts of the original Norman building. The humility of the original structure has given way to grand architecture and artwork that surrounds the tombs of King Frederick III, King Louis, and other notable Italians. Using our world travel planner, Catania attractions like Duomo di Catania can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Drive out loud. Inside tranquility. Only destroyed, then rebuilt. May you all experience n. The ships are designed. However impressive. From the service, I have not so much understood my Italian is not the best.

  • Great but not great I would describe this church. I have seen more beautiful and the outside with square, elephant and fish market made it nice to also take Church to visit. Next to the Church (to the right of the entrance) is a staircase to the old thermal baths. Seems to be worth it but unfortunately closed when I visited the city. There were more "must seen" closed (out of season).
