  • One of the attractions of the centrtica Piazza Stesicoro is the pit, very well enabled, which are the remains of part of the Catania Roman Amphitheater, built in the 2nd century and expanded in the 3rd. The monument, which can be visited, suffered various vicissitudes throughout history. Tradition says that this Amphitheatre was saved from destruction by a stream of lava during a major eruption of Etna the year 252. The tradition goes beyond: also it is said before the arrival of the lava flow to the city, the inhabitants of the area went to the tomb of Saint Agatha, very close, and took mortuary veil, which miraculously appeared to stop the burning river. Interesting for those interested by Roman culture, although in reality this amphitheatre does not differ much from facing numerous elsewhere of what was the Roman Empire.

  • Sicilian Street walking, in the middle of the first Roman sports field track. It is small as the size of the remaining ruins are free to enter, while walking around in time to get a glimpse.

  • Awesome place! It's crazy to see what was under the destruction of MT. Etna! Really worth a look, don't pass it up!
  • Quite small but still very nice place to visit
  • Ruins of an old anfiteatro, interesting to see how there is a city under the city after the destruction by earthquakes and vulcano eruptions.
  • Lack of 'touristic' aesthetics, so lack of one star. Not well maintained. But fascinating stuff right in the middle of the city!
  • 10% of an amphitheater, the rest is hidden under the city. Not much to see, but free entry and worth a quick look when passing by.
