  • Because we always seek accommodations that offer us the opportunity to cook, markets like this are especially appealing. Oodles of fresh fish choices. We bought fresh swordfish (spada) Sea bass (branz...  more »
  • This is the true heart of the city. What makes you understand the traditions that still here are important, history, work, humility and values of fishermen and fishmongers who work selling their catch between shrieks, shouts, shouting and bargaining as in an auction ... all in dialect of Catania and under the eyes of visitors, tourists and many buyers. The market a little and a little short selling is just a few steps from Piazza del Duomo, below and behind the white fountain. Colors, smells, tastes cooked fish and seafood dominate. The water flowing from melting ice creates Rivulets down. .. sometimes mixed with blood of large fish that are cleaned on site, some especially prawns, Octopus, mussels are still alive. Huge tuna and swordfish are out of some stalls and hardly no one stops to observe them even if you don't buy .... is a place too fascinating for us not to at least one turn and get kidnapped by a throwback that hardly sits still in our northern cities. Among the fish stalls and makeshift ones on simple boxes there is still the tour of ice cubes .... even this hard to forget after visiting ...
