  • Heralded by the dome of the Bell Tower decorated with polychrome majolica, a short distance from the Castle, in the historical centre of Castelsardo stands the impressive cathedral overlooking the sea. The majestic Bell Tower, built by Doria in the middle ages, was established initially with Watchtower and beacon to be subsequently used as a Bell Tower. The Cathedral, which was built over a pre-existing Romanesque church and enlarged between 1597 and 1606, shows a distinct appearance due to the overlap between the Catalan Gothic style and the classical Renaissance. The atmosphere inside is embellished by works of art present on which stands a XVI century the master of Castelsardo, the Virgin and child seated on a throne, set in the marble altar constructed in 1810; very nice is also the organ of the 18th century located on the raised choir loft, apparently supported by two ancient Roman columns found in the sea and positioned for decorative purpose only and the wooden pulpit with carved choir stalls, made by Jaume Camilla in 1765.

  • stop for a few more hours to dedicate to visiting this beautiful church and the crypt below where there is a small but valuable collection of works of art. The Church placed at the bottom of the historic recalls certain churches visited in Portugal. very impressive the simple façade with the portal highlighted, asymmetrically, by a white line. From there you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the sea below and on cliffs. Striking the Bell Tower, once considered a lighthouse turned, which stands detached in the square opposite the Church. Internally a very nice guide gives us detailed information on the structure and the works preserved in the Cathedral. I hit some altars, two small frescoes (one of which is in an original way the Holy Family) and a chapel lined with azulejos, Portuguese decorated tiles. Exiting a door near the altar you leave outside and a staircase you reach the newest Tomb. For this you need to make a business card inside the Cathedral itself. The ticket is reduced if you are in possession of a ticket to the Castle. Within another guide, really knowledgeable and pleasant, we appreciated the major works within this scenic environment. The 14th-century statue lying down, some relics, but especially the paintings of master of Castelsardo son little touches really impregnable. Interesting movie, photos and the vestments that tell the most important procession that takes place during Holy week in this village

  • A stone cathedral build right into the narrow streets and alleyways of Castelsardo. It fits very well into the overall look of the city and the inside is also quite beautiful.
  • nice
  • Castelsardo is a charming town located on the sea, and the sea has made history. The country has been used as a defensive stronghold and a strategic point of control. The old village still retains its structure of medieval stronghold, with imposing ramparts, steep stairs and narrow streets. On top of the plateau rises the fortress of the Doria Castle, which houses the Museum of Mediterranean weaving. A short distance from the Castle, overlooking the Cathedral of Sant'Antonio Abate, of the 14th century, with a special Bell Tower covered with coloured tiles. At the foot of the Castle stands the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, from the medieval period, which preserves a wooden crucifix of the black Christ dating from the fourteenth century. Castelsardo is a medieval town situated in the Northern Sardinia, the Gulf of Asinara, preserved practically intact thanks to its geographical position, a promontory overlooking the sea, which preserved him from attacks and destruction over the centuries. Founded by the Genoese doria family by the name of Castelgenovese, was later conquered by the Aragonese and renamed Castellaragonese. The today's name Castelsardo dates from the mid-18th century, when it replaced the Spanish one.

  • 1.2 .3, Sardinia! Third stage of our motorcycle tours around the coasts of Sardinia. After a long day on the bike, we drive to the ancient town of Castel Sardo, to greet the day from the yard of the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, hence the tramonto is ... I won't tell you, go and find out! Stroll along the narrow streets, between eateries, artisans, jewelers, and away for dinner, towards restaurant Roccaja! Follow the next review, enjoy it!
