Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, Castelnuovo dell'Abate

(4.7/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
A former Benedictine monastery with a Carolingian edifice, Abbazia di Sant'Antimo offers archaeological intrigue. While there is no proof Charlemagne founded the site, the early foundations date back to his era. The abbey's humble interior houses Carolingian-era carvings depicting animals and plants. You'll see the inspiration for these works of art right outside the chapel doors, where vineyards, mountains, and landscaped gardens invite you to explore. • We got there by a dirt road that starts from a village of Montalcino (Sant'Angelo in Colle) and following the signs for sixth door to the Abbey without returning to Montalcino. Are less than 10 Km, amid rolling hills and past farms making history of Brunello. In the end, all of a sudden, you see the Church, majestic in the middle of the countryside. My wife and I there had been more than 30 years ago, and then a lot of beautiful memories are back to memory. If you are interested in deciphering the hidden symbols in this Abbey get yourself a nice guide since on-site explanations are few and fragmentary.

  • Back from Montalcino, we did stop to visit this beautiful Abbey. Definitely worth spending an hour or more in the visit of the artifact and the surrounding countryside, weather permitting.

  • We didn't stay long but it is quite a place to behold.
  • The monastery started in 8th century and still in service.
  • Plan your visit that you will be there when they are chanting.
  • Here is the story. The. campaign and the surrounding Rabo make it a magical place. Light pollution does not exist. And it is worth to know Mrs Rosaria, outstanding person ale that manages the guesthouse and the hostel. Remember to return the keys. Don't do as I do. Then tap fornare to deliver them:-)
