Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, Castelnuovo dell'Abate
(4.7/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
A former Benedictine monastery with a Carolingian edifice, Abbazia di Sant'Antimo offers archaeological intrigue. While there is no proof Charlemagne founded the site, the early foundations date back to his era. The abbey's humble interior houses Carolingian-era carvings depicting animals and plants. You'll see the inspiration for these works of art right outside the chapel doors, where vineyards, mountains, and landscaped gardens invite you to explore. • After visiting Montalcino, it cannot do without visiting the Abbey; Despite being very busy, silence prevails. Evidently combines meditation; all around there are olive groves and vineyards immaculate. It is maintained very well.

  • Beautiful Romanesque Abbey which perhaps was visited also by Charlemagne. Definitely much rebuilt in external facing and almost completely inside. Beautiful the only, I think, capital survived. Very well done explanation and the grading of the Abbey within the path of the via francigena. Beautiful!

  • Who travels by Italy need to know this little town. Great wines and a landscape to get lost in time. Medieval city with a rare beauty. We left Florence to Montalcino. We researched several ways to get in town, but the only way to not lose time was renting a car. Woke up early and went to a video store. We take the road towards the most beautiful medieval town I've ever met. The path was pretty quiet. Arriving there, we started researching places to visit and eat. We had a moment to sit in front of the Fort and spend hours there enjoying the sunset. unforgettable Place to visit. Inside the Fort has a wine shop. Very cool.

  • We didn't stay long but it is quite a place to behold.
  • The monastery started in 8th century and still in service.
  • Plan your visit that you will be there when they are chanting.
  • Here is the story. The. campaign and the surrounding Rabo make it a magical place. Light pollution does not exist. And it is worth to know Mrs Rosaria, outstanding person ale that manages the guesthouse and the hostel. Remember to return the keys. Don't do as I do. Then tap fornare to deliver them:-)
