Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, Castelnuovo dell'Abate

4.7
A former Benedictine monastery with a Carolingian edifice, Abbazia di Sant'Antimo offers archaeological intrigue. While there is no proof Charlemagne founded the site, the early foundations date back to his era. The abbey's humble interior houses Carolingian-era carvings depicting animals and plants. You'll see the inspiration for these works of art right outside the chapel doors, where vineyards, mountains, and landscaped gardens invite you to explore. • Very beautiful Romanesque church with beautiful capitals and a beautiful Romanesque Christ. Audio guides are available for help visit: they are really well made and to better understand the Interior of the monument. Interesting shop at the exit.

  • Charming landscape, among the hills that lead to the Abbey that stands within a large plot surrounded by green olive trees ... a well kept definitely deserves a stop to admire the Abbey's exterior but also the Interior and hear his story

  • If you are in Tuscany, the region of Montalcino, taste wines and take a picture of the gorgeous scenery of Val-d-Orci, you just need to drive to the Abbey of Sant'antimo. from Montalcino road takes only 10 minutes, but what a pleasure. Yes, the site turned out, travel-particularly local curio shop that boldly named "Monastery pharmacy" (farmacia monastica), but which, in my opinion, is nothing special, except that beautiful jars with honey and jams bottles (wine, beer, liqueurs and settings), boxes (with cosmetics, SOAP and automatic oil) "stilnenko" are labeled with the logo of the monastery. Here you can buy otkrytochki and disks (you most like in the Temple). Immediately there is a toilet. Take a symbolic cost 50 cents. I had no luck-toilet paper I found in a stall.  Something to buy rashotelos, although intended to-many say that monastic honey is very delicious. Prices slightly overstated; It should be noted that the "tjotenki-Prod.

  • One of the most beautiful Romanesque abbeys in the world. Perfectly located on a little hill overlooking the Tuscan countryside, its bell tower flanked by a giant cypress. Used to rate this 5 stars when there was still a community of monks living here who performed Gregorian chants.
  • Abbey very traditional. Change of experience from those opulent ones in venice.
  • Definitely the most beautiful abbey in Italy! We've come here for at least 20 years. In the beginning there were almost no tourists. Now the way down is paved, paid parking and there even is a shop at the top of the hill..... But still it's the most beautiful abbey of Italy :-) Try to stay for a service when you're here.
  • Free visit. Extremely characteristic and still in perfect shape.
  • An incredible abbey in an open Valley
