Monte Cassino, Cassino

Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web
Built on the site of a sixth-century monastery, Monte Cassino was designed by some of southeastern Europe's finest artists before its papal consecration in 1041. The abbey has been restored since its destruction in 1944 during the Battle of Monte Cassino. View relics, mosaics, manuscripts, and other artifacts as you wander the hallways and courtyards. The hike to the monastery, which is on a 520 m (1,706 ft) high hill, is extremely steep. Plan to take public transportation to the top. • Suspended on a mountain after 6 turns steep like flying on the plain of cassino suspended in the former Temple of Apollo, spientemente and piously edited by San Benedettoda Norcia

  • The monastery built from the ground up. Looking at the photos the ruins of hard to believe that everything was created more than half a century ago. Excellent view from the square and the cemetery. Wherever you fly white cabbage rolls. The monastery strictly maintains the following opening hours:-from 8.30 to 12.30; -in the afternoon from 15.30 to 17.00 (18.00 in summer time). Note on proper dress! There is a prohibition on entering the monastery for people dressed only in shorts, miniskirts, short sleeveless shirts.

  • After how much they had read about the Abbey, the visit was a little disappointing. I thought that the monastery had been subject of a reconstruction Museum as it has happened with other war scenarios, Normandy for example. The Abbey is screwed on the Benedictine history and has spectacular views. Probably the historical Museum, down in the village of taste who seek the history of the battle. I found it closed. The touching Polish Cemetery.
