  • Recently with friends I visited the castle of Sarzano and stayed at the Inn of the Peregrine Falcon. The restoration of the Castle, well executed but not quite completed, have enhanced the structure. It is little noticed but really quite nice and from the top you can enjoy a breathtaking landscape. We enjoyed the fine cuisine and tasty restaurant and the excellent breakfasts served outdoors in the square below the Castle. It is an oasis of peace and quiet where you feel welcomed and pampered thanks to the kindness of the lady who runs the Inn. Before leaving this site recommend buying parmesan ' mountain product ' on sale at some dairies in the area

  • The castle of Sarzano, can easily be reached from the village of Casina via a convenient asphalted road, reported very well by many signs along it; its origin is prior to the year 1000 ad, and was one of the most important centers of the defense system erected by Matilda of Canossa. Today, packed with information panels along the way, he has visited in the donjon or tower, the largest building in the Summit complex of Sarzano, rectangular, crowned with Corbels, specifically suitable for defensive functions but also residential. Important is also the Tower, about 20 meters, spread over six levels, which stands at the highest point of Mount of Sarzano and whose original structure dates back to the 13th century; being in time as underlying Saint Bartholomew church bell tower is worth to protect it from decay. Magnifico is the panorama that offers visitors ranging on the surrounding hills to the Pietra di Bismantova.

  • Spectacular views of the Apennines from the main tower. The visit is very short but always impressive.
