  • The castello dei Vicari of Lari is a destination worth considering if you want to visit a castle well preserved (the long renovation works were completed only a few years ago). From the beautiful village of Lari (and) there is a magnificent panorama that includes Livorno, Pisa, Volterra, Pontedera. The perimeter of the walls of the castle is accessible and there are explanatory signs to identify the main resorts. In the Castle courtyard exposes the coats of arms of more than 90 families. In the same courtyard there is a small church which has a distinctive feature: five cells with loopholes that allowed the prisoners to attend religious ceremonies. The entrance to the castle is free for children up to 10 years. On Backpacks Curious (zainetticuriosi.blogspot.it) we have told our tour of the castle with the kids.

  • The castle is right in the Centre of the medieval town of Lari and even before you visit it you understand the importance it had in past centuries by the grandeur of its walls. The actual construction dates back to 1200 though the castle there is a trace in previous historical records. During the Middle Ages it was home of the Inquisition and witch trials were held inside and ferocious torture punitive. On the wall of the inner court, to represent the successive Vicars, terracotta and majolica made 94 hang coats of arms, the guided tour is interactive, interesting, and not at all obvious, it's meant for kids. From the outside its dominance allows a spectacular view of the Valdarno that on a clear day stretches as far as the sea.

  • Amazing views of the country side. Highly recommend a walk around the Castello and enjoy the views
  • Very rude personnel. Castle definitely worth seeing from the outside, not inside
  • Piccolo e inquietante...da visitare!
  • A pretty typical village with in its center the remains of a castle overlooking the breathtaking. Don't forget to buy the famous Martelli pasta!

  • Beautiful double wall perfectly preserved. The Castle, built with the function of being a power Center in the area, is located on the hilltop of Lari, where you can check all the Valdarno. One of the most beautiful castles in Italy I think, despite not taking a typically medieval aspect, since it was remodeled in ' 400 and 600.
