Via Krupp, Capri

4.1
#2 of 20 in Outdoors in Capri
A historic footpath along Capri's coast, Via Krupp is an architectural feat with a nefarious purpose. Officially, German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp said it was built to provide a direct connection between his luxury hotel and his marine biology research vehicle on the water. Later, people discovered that the path actually led to the Grotta di Fra Felice, where the Krupp held wild parties. Krupp was asked to leave Italy in 1902. While the path is now a tourist attraction, it is often closed because of rocks falling from the cliffs. Check the conditions before coming. • This is one of the most beautiful walk of the island with beautiful views. Too bad that access be regulated see even closed in some cases.

  • Hiking trail stuck to the cliff connecting Marina Picola to the Certosa. This road fits perfectly in the Rocky setting. Course about 1.5 km offering magnificent views. The site is a rare beauty but it is also dangerous: frequent landslides forced the closure of the path and the access are cut still currently by grids. At your own risk, it is possible to spend...

  • Still closed for years now. It remains a myth to visitors, who can see it only from the outside!!

  • Unfortunately closed. You get a great shot from the augustus garden. I really do hope it reopens again
  • I felt really disappointed when I found out that it is closed. Even though I enjoyed stunning views from Augustus gardens.
  • Great scenery from the top.
  • Don't expect to walk via Krupp. It has been closed for a while and nobody could tell us when it will be open again. It looks interesting from above, hence two stars instead of none.
  • A truly stunning view, I visited in mid-summer so there were many tourists, but it was still a very tranquil and calming experience walking along the winding road down the mountain. For those with young children, the elderly or those sensitive to heat I would recommend walking down and then getting a cab back from Marina Piccola, the walk back can be demanding for some people especially in the heat of summer.

Where to stay in Capri

A popular island retreat, Capri offers some of the world's finest seaside lodging options. Most luxury and boutique hotels are located along the water, offering top-notch amenities and access to the best beaches. This tiny island has a big tourist following, which means that in high season even the most economic hotels might cost as much as four- or five-star establishments on the mainland. To avoid the high costs of big chains, consider booking your stay at a traditional B&B farther away from the island's main tourist areas.
