  • The Italy with its thousands of small villages always saves a bunch of surprises! I don't mean the Piccolomini Castle of Capistrano (already nice to visit), but of microscopic Museum which is housed in a small room next to the entrance to the Castle. It is a small military museum dedicated to the two great wars, managed by the Associazione Nazionale Alpini. A real treat for the nostalgic and military enthusiasts. Here there are uniforms and helmets, basti and saddles mules, field kitchens, palanquins for the wounded, "Sandals" to walk silently mules, snow shoes to prevent them from sinking. But there are also very rare objects like a stretcher corpsman dating back to World War I, an old saddle that belonged to the police complete with combat equipment, and a crate full of tools used by blacksmith battalion Monte Berico. Entrance to the Museum is free and the President of Anas Toma mi Capestrano section George kindly welcomed and shown many valuable historic relics collected here. Definitely worth a visit!

  • We popped in Capestrano, by chance, during the day and to work. We had next to a castle that is gorgeous, but it has the disadvantage of being treated with laxity. I could say it's gorgeous but, since I am picky, I mean it sucks. Let me explain better. The castle is a gem that should be kept as it was originally: what are they doing in the municipal offices? Why the Office for tourists is not there but elsewhere? Why not furnish it with equipment of the time (perhaps redone). Why don't you find the entrance a brochure? Because the stairs (redone) are in travertine is smooth while everything else (at the time) and rough from Mason? Because you don't put flags on beautiful towers? In short, it's a wonder but badly used. In any case is worth seeing, prior study (at home) in history and characteristics. Not to be overlooked, then other beauties of the place: the River, the gastronomy, the monuments, the Abbey etc.. Tell us that in the castle there is an Alpine Cicero bravissimo, but lunch time there we could talk. We asked about Castle at the restaurant ... well, never mind.

  • I have visited many castles around Europe but I must say this is really one of the most beautiful I've seen. Atrium with breath-taking pit with stairways and window that becomes a natural framework with background mountains, gateway to the majestic Fort ... What about this castle could be used to shoot film medieval and fantasy films. As soon as you walk through the entrance is magically transported into another dimension. A DREAM
