The story has taken steps to raise awareness of Canossa through his powerful and famous Methuen & co Matilde; It is nice to now turn to the green hills with castles in plain view, and think of so many centuries ago; the guided tour of the Museum of the castle of Canossa helps us to learn more.

The route can be done from the nearby Ciano d'enza today renamed Canossa or from Quattro Castella while remaining immersed in a medieval landscape. Next to the fortress is created a museum preserving important and interesting exhibits and looking good can hear the words of Henry IV invoking forgiveness and understanding to her cousin who left three days on her knees in front of the entrance of the fortress

The area of Tuscany, very important from a historical point of view, is quite and interesting to visit. There are castles, towers, villages in these places that were crossed by Matilda of Canossa and other historical figures. Nowadays you can take advantage to stop for lunch or dinner at one of the many farms or restaurants in this area.

  • Some of the massive Castle, built between 900 and 1000, they remained few remains, but know that Ludovico Ariosto Castellan was for a period and, above all, in January 1077 there took place the famous reconciliation (but was rather a humiliation) among Germany's Emperor Henry IV and Pope Gregory VII under the auspices of the great Countess Matilda of Canossa (who ruled over Tuscany and many lands of Northern Italy) fill those same remains a unique charm. And then there is to admire the stunning scenery all around, characterized by deep erosion gullies or of the land in this part of the Appennino reggiano. Worth of curvy roads and landslides and to climb finally walk on the rock.

  • You can't take a trip to the Hill Reggiana without going through the castle of Canossa. The castle remains standing not much, but it's fascinating the whole story that goes around. From the top you can enjoy a nice view on the valleys below.

  • Some ruins and chaos of people loitering in the Park; outrageous toilet for 2017
