  • Steeped in history the Appennino reggiano, related to Countess Matilda mediator for the meeting between Pope Gregory VII and Emperor Henry IV during the investiture controversy. Great website with practical information. Leave your car at the parking lot below the Castle. Here there is a small but well maintained information point with books, toys and you can drink the excellent lambrusco and eat a few but excellent local produce, including erbazzone. At this point you can go up to the Castle. The admission is 3 euros with various facilities provided by the Ministry of cultural heritage and activities. Very little remains of the Castle, but the ruins are impressive, especially the part of the crypt of the Church of Saint Apollonius, which remains the beautiful baptismal font (see photo) visible in the small but well done Museum located inside the ruins. In the ticket is incl audio well made and full of news and then the staff is helpful, knowledgeable and passionate. Loved the view.

  • The Castle stood in a really extraordinary, incredibly wide view. The scenario is still very impressive, marked by deep gullies, Castle unfortunately remained very little, but it's worth a visit! We stayed on a guided tour that takes place essentially within the Museum, where there are some exhibits and a model showing how it would be once the home of Matilda. Maria Luisa Guide provided us with clear explanations and exhaustive information that allowed us to immerse ourselves in the context of the historical period in question. Congratulations!

  • The Museum is small but well done: contains all the essential information a tourist expects to find at the time of the visit. The price is included in the entrance fee to the site that is very low (3 euros adults and minors for free)

  • The view can be enjoyed from the top of the cliff, in the ruins of the Castle. Several artifacts and a model that reconstructs the original development of the castle of Matilda of Canossa. All well looked after and in good order.

  • Breathtaking view of the Badlands surrounded by the charm of the myth of the most important woman of the European middle ages

  • The Lady of Europe lived here, and if he feels a presence. To visit although little remains of the Castle

  • Not essential, but it's worth a visit if you are in the area
