Castello Pallotta, Caldarola

“Castello Pallotta” is located in Caldarola, a charming village in the heart of Le Marche region, in the province of Macerata. The castle was built in the ninth century and was restored at the end of the sixteenth century by the cardinal Evangelista Pallotta. He decided to transform the building into a majestic Renaissance residence.

The ancient castle walls are still intact, as are its Guelph crenellations, battlements and drawbridge. The visit takes you through the historic building, where every ornament is placed in its original context with great attention to detail. It is possible to visit the ancient kitchen, with its traditional copper cookware and ceramic, the reception hall, the elegant bedchamber, the dining room with its fine collection of eighteenth century majolica and, finally, the exquisite “Salotto Giallo” with the paintings attributed to the artist Simone De Magistris. The castle has hosted over the centuries, Pope Clement VIII, King Casimir of Poland and Queen Christina of Sweden.

  • This castle is wholly remained as it was in ancient times. To date is the only Castle, among those I've visited, which gives an idea of how it was to be a castle and as a result of how people lived. Highly recommended to visit!

  • An historic treasure jealously guarded by the successors of the family Pallotta. I hope that the same commitment and the same responsibility are intact in the values of future successors so cherish this immense heritage.
