  • I was today in Calatafimi. Exactly a Roman Memorial Ossuary Shrine Crying Partisans fought on 15 may 1860 therein in the locality of "Tears of the Romans" was fought on 15 may 1860, not far from the village of Calatafimi-Segesta between Giuseppe Garibaldi's hunters of the Alps, joined by volunteers from Sicily, and about 3,000 soldiers of the army of the two Sicilies framed movable column General Francesco Landi. The road leading to the Shrine is in very poor condition and courtyard where stands the obelisco is unadorned. In sorry state the Avenue of remembrance where the marble blocks donated by various municipalities of Italy who have fallen between the Partisans are literally unreadable and two coats of glass above them were destroyed by vandals. At the end or beginning of the avenue depending on where it comes and where is located the marble mantelpiece with the inscription "here there is the Italy or die" is the rod with the flag of Italy literally to shreds. The Interior of the ossuary was damaged by water leaks and inside there was placed a flag of the Bourbons of the two Sicilies. Although there are buried in mass grave Bourbon and Garibaldi, I find that the abovementioned flag find each other in a nutshell there shouldn't be. Outside in the square facing the ossuary from the street should in my opinion be erected a flagpole, so visible from the road and the valley below with a large national flag. I will forward a letter of complaint to Commissioner General for the funeral to the fallen of the army to report this unacceptable situation. The fallen Partisans and Sicilians who gave the first fallen in Italy Color deserve a worthy reminder and not this way.
