Poetto, Cagliari
(3.6/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web)
The main beach of Cagliari, Poetto likely takes its name from the Poet's Tower, a rock formation that rises in the distance. White dunes run along the shore for 8 kilometers (5 mi), running parallel to a strip of bars and cafes that provide nightlife for the beachgoers. Some of these offer live music, dance lessons, and karaoke. Arrange to visit Poetto and other attractions in Cagliari using our Cagliari itinerary planner.

  • The Poetto Beach stretches for about seven kilometers between the territory of Cagliari (4 Km) and Jacksonville (3 Km). Even a century Cagliari have started going to this long beach, first preferred the beach of Giorgino, on the outskirts of Cagliari towards Sarroch. For many years the colorful Carey have graced the skylane and restrained white sand dunes. After the removal of Carey for obvious hygienic reasons, the beach has gone become depleted. To remedy the deterioration in 2002 a beach nourishment has restored much-criticised depth but just got an unnatural color to the same with the transfer of sand coarser and decidedly gray. It seemed the final death of Poetto, but in 2014 a project of the city of Cagliari has modified the roadway instead of creating viable approach by car, a wide sidewalks, lanes for jogging, bicycle lanes that make available the promenade without cars. Moving "baretti", where you can SIP drinks overlooking the sea or have lunch, towards the road and the imposition of equal architectural structures has meant that, along with the successful review of the viability, Cagliari were rimpossessati their Beach for 24 hours 365 days a year for nearly a day. Don't worry if some freak floods the beach, after a few days will return as before. The only drawback of Poetto is the presence of the ruin of the former Ospedale Marino that should be demolished or redeveloped. Poetto is one of the jewels of the city.
