Castello di Caccamo, Caccamo
(4.2/5 based on 440+ reviews on the web)
Stroll through the halls of history at Castello di Caccamo, one of Sicily's most outstanding medieval monuments. The castle, perched on a cliff overlooking the scenic town of Caccamo, dates back to the 12th century, when it was built by the island's Norman conquerors. One of the largest castles in Italy, it's now fully restored to its former glory after decades of work. Explore everything from the noblemen's chambers to the servants' quarters, and stop by the armory that holds authentic weaponry and pieces of armor. You can opt to take a guided tour of the castle, and the ground-floor restaurant lets you enjoy a meal in the historic setting. Use our Caccamo trip generator to add Castello di Caccamo and other attractions to your Caccamo vacation plans.

  • Saturday excursion to the castle of Caccamo. A tour guide tells us how highly you lived then. A nice blast from the past makes us live emotions touch what was the Castle and the life that took place inside. An immense castle full of stories and trivia. A recommended visit to both adults and children.

  • A great legacy of Sicilian history. Intact in many parts, it is the largest of Sicily and amongst the largest in Europe. Pity that some parts have been restored in a controversial but, as a whole, remains a reality. Between those walls is intertwined with the history of Sicily, Western and Eastern. We split between economic and household goods are transferred to the Sicilian region between 1965 and 1966. The visit to the castle is a must. Not to be missed.

  • One of the most beautiful castles of Sicily. The castle of caccamo is huge and with a breathtaking view! Shame that unfortunately has been renovated inside and made almost modern.

  • Well preserved castle. Cheap to enter and they let you walk at your own pace. Don't miss the 20 cent espresso machine!
  • Very nice castle. Very well preserved. Definetly recommend visiting
  • Awesome castle with a great view of the valley/basin below. Our kids loved it! Extremely well preserved and displayed a lot of history on the inside.
  • Norman dream castle, flawlessly restored. Several displays of period clothing, weapons, heraldry, prisoner graffiti, and stunning vistas to boot. The highlight of our trip to Sicily.
  • I'm on vacation in Sicily, now at the end, and today 5 October MONDAY, I had planned a trip to the town of Caccamo (indicated by signs such as MEDIEVAL VILLAGE) with intention to visit its famous Castle. But with great sorpresave disappointment I couldn't see anything because it is closed to all employees to tourist spots. But I say we're still in holiday times, there are still tourists around especially foreigners! Congratulations to the Mayor and the City Council Dara, you are truly brilliant, and congratulations also to its citizens that voted him allowing him to stop the tourism and its development of the medieval village that if this continues it will remain only the sign--maybe faded! I have no words ... absurd! Antonella (Rieti)
