Castello di Caccamo, Caccamo

(4.2/5 based on 440+ reviews on the web)
Stroll through the halls of history at Castello di Caccamo, one of Sicily's most outstanding medieval monuments. The castle, perched on a cliff overlooking the scenic town of Caccamo, dates back to the 12th century, when it was built by the island's Norman conquerors. One of the largest castles in Italy, it's now fully restored to its former glory after decades of work. Explore everything from the noblemen's chambers to the servants' quarters, and stop by the armory that holds authentic weaponry and pieces of armor. You can opt to take a guided tour of the castle, and the ground-floor restaurant lets you enjoy a meal in the historic setting. Use our Caccamo trip generator to add Castello di Caccamo and other attractions to your Caccamo vacation plans.

  • Beautiful stronghold well taken care of and located in a strategic place. To visit, even with children

  • The castle itself is beautiful, there are good parts of Defense and life in the Castle. The guides are highly skilled, both the Castle and the city; also available and passionate. To see the panoramas from the walls and terraces of the Castle

  • Like any self-respecting Castle even that DARA has its ghost, in fact it is said that at the time they were a beautiful castellana fell in love with a soldier, the father and Lord of the castle the discovered and (since in those days were not so subtle) did slay the soldier. The girl was locked up in the tower. If you visit the Castle might meet his ghost that will offer you a pomegranate, if you will be so good to eat it without making it fall a grain, she will reveal the place where the treasure is hidden, otherwise you will wander with you for eternity! In fact during my visit I thought I saw a strange shadow:)) Legends apart is a charming place that worth a visit, you will also be accompanied by highly skilled guides. Tickets cost just four euros per person.

  • Well preserved castle. Cheap to enter and they let you walk at your own pace. Don't miss the 20 cent espresso machine!
  • Very nice castle. Very well preserved. Definetly recommend visiting
  • Awesome castle with a great view of the valley/basin below. Our kids loved it! Extremely well preserved and displayed a lot of history on the inside.
  • Norman dream castle, flawlessly restored. Several displays of period clothing, weapons, heraldry, prisoner graffiti, and stunning vistas to boot. The highlight of our trip to Sicily.
  • I'm on vacation in Sicily, now at the end, and today 5 October MONDAY, I had planned a trip to the town of Caccamo (indicated by signs such as MEDIEVAL VILLAGE) with intention to visit its famous Castle. But with great sorpresave disappointment I couldn't see anything because it is closed to all employees to tourist spots. But I say we're still in holiday times, there are still tourists around especially foreigners! Congratulations to the Mayor and the City Council Dara, you are truly brilliant, and congratulations also to its citizens that voted him allowing him to stop the tourism and its development of the medieval village that if this continues it will remain only the sign--maybe faded! I have no words ... absurd! Antonella (Rieti)
