  • Erected in times of fascist rhetoric (1932/33), failed, in my view, to give the right emphasis to its purpose, that is, enhancing the value of exceptional men as our sailors. They deserved more! The only plus point is the height which allows a 360-degree view of the whole city and its harbour. The Interior should be kept a bit better. I'm sorry, but that's what I tried giving it to visit. In any case, it is definitely worth a visit, if only to soak up the memory and prayer.

  • Crossing the channel Pigott is accessed in the inner harbour, naturally branched into two parts called levante and ponente breast breast; Here you will find the monument to Italian sailors in Italy, built in 1933, shaped like a rudder and 54 metres high. Seen from above, the whole of the whole construction looks like a stylized bird. The collection of funds for the construction lasted about 10 years and was, in particular, the tenor Tito Schipa, with the proceeds of the concerts. Inside the monument there are historic rooms, where you can see objects and historical artifacts, including the urn containing the sand of El Alamein as well as a frieze donated by the Presidency of the Republic; There is also a photographic journey along the walls of the Interior stairs, useful to follow the various stages of construction, as well as the opening ceremony of the monument. From the terrace, accessible to the public, the view over the town and Harbour is very impressive. At the base there is a Chapel Shrine, where they remember the fallen of world wars and is kept the Bell of the battleship "Benedetto Brin", sank in the port of Brindisi in 1915. In the square in front of the entrance are two anchors belonged to the austro-Hungarian armoured and two guns of submarines of the same nationality. At the top was placed, in 1954, the marble statue of the Madonna. To visit.
