  • On the threshold of this Valentine's day, my fidandato has the brilliant idea of discovering Brescello, mythical Theater of the adventures of our heroes and that for those who love this series and who is a true fairy tale made famous. lha The country still looks like what it once was and if you think the Museum (a must have) is the only attraction to see you are wrong you big. The square with the Church and the statues of the two friends/enemies welcome each other are the first gem of the visit winding along a path that takes us outside the House of Peppone and under the legendary Bell that for just the breaks the crapone, passing by the House of Don Camillo to the madonnina of the Borghetto and gradually to German tank ... or maybe not , American!!! Then happen to turn around and see on a wall like so many painted by a new neo-realist painter the Gisella and be moved in front of pictures of that last movie that we will never see. Fernandel and Gino Cervi will find a worthy tribute to all who have left us and thanks to the lovely people we met during these days, from various restaurants until Mr. Gianni del museo di Don Camillo and Peppone, which we had the honour to have as flawless Cicero. Fairy tale or reality? "Hard to say ... hard ..."

  • "This is the country, the small world of a small world, planted in some part of Northern Italy. There in that slice of fat and flat land that lies between the PO River and the Apennines ", so Giovannino Guareschi had described the world of Don Camillo and Peppone at the time to translate it into images the atmospheres of mondo piccolo and Brescello had found the perfect setting, with the people, the places, the weather more typical of the Po Valley. Of course Don Camillo Brescello is not only the country, but also a town rich in history and art, which is worth a look in more detail. You can leave from Giglioli, leaving behind the 16th-century Church of la Concepción. Along the way you can see on the left side, before the old hospital and then the post office building, already active in that time. There is also the Bell used in one of the films in the series of Don Camillo, continuing until you reach the heart of Brescello, consisting of Piazza Matteotti, where the Town Hall and the Church of Santa Maria Nascente, which served as the backdrop to many adventures of Don Camillo and Peppone. The sides of the square are the bronze statues of the two characters, Mantuan sculptor Andrea Zangani, inaugurated in June 2001 in memory of 50 years of the first film, while in the Center stands on a marble pedestal, the plaster copy of the statue of Hercules (also known as "Pasquino"), while the original, created by Sansovino for Ercole II d'Este is now kept at the Centro Cultural San Benedetto. The square, surrounded on two sides by porticos, is dominated by the Church of Santa Maria Nascente, inside which there is the famous "Christ speaking" films. The façade is decorated with a porch, a valuable antique, but not at all, as it built the third film in the series temporarily during processing of Don Camillo. Don't miss the Museum Peppone and Don Camillo not far from the square with the famous tank used in one of his films.
