Castle
Castello Orsini-Odescalchi is a castle in Bracciano, in the Province of Rome, Lazio, Italy. It is located on the southern shore of Lake Bracciano. It was built in the 15th century, and combines the functions of a military defence structure and a civilian residence of the feudal lords of the period, the Orsini and Borgia, both papal families. As one of the largest and best-maintained castles in Italy, it also houses a museum; as a centre of cultural events, the Castello has hosted several high-profile weddings like the ones of Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes, Eros Ramazzotti/ Michelle Hunziker and Petra Ecclestone/James Stunt.GeographyThe well-preserved medieval castle Castello Orsini-Odescalchi is 3 km from the Bracciano town which is 30 km away from Rome. It is located on the southern shore of the volcanic lake . The railway Line FR3 connects it with Rome in about 55 minutes. Close to it lie the two medieval towns of Anguillara Sabazia and Trevignano Romano.

  • Let me start by saying that we made this visit without a guide, then certainly with a guide tell you a thrilling storyline and various anecdotes of your visit would be more engaging. That being said ... it's not the first castle I visit, but the conservation status of this is really bad ... and I'm not just talking about the restoration, that we can justify it with "limited funds", but I am also referring to the presence of cobwebs (which would take a broom) and electricity made by passing electric wires and nailed on the frescoes. I had no words. To this we add a ticket definitely affordable, 8.50 €, but in my view exaggerated in relation to admission price requested facilities in much better shape. I conclude that the plan of access was completely empty (there was one huge room, vacuum, in which is housed the corner toilet), the Middle floor was a succession of empty rooms (with frescoes on the walls, Yes, but poorly preserved and scarred by electrical wires and webs) and upstairs were exposed objects (such as armor and weapons) that I think were inappropriate (I doubt the preserve at 2° piano...ma there wasn't a shred of indication the original use of the room). In short, visit made quickly and with great disappointment.

  • Perfectly preserved. Thanks to the notions of the Guide, enjoyed the visit in every particular. Impressive background on Lake Bracciano, which you can enjoy from the walkway outside. Truly recommended.

  • Entry costs € 8.50 and the visit can be done alone or with a guide; in this case takes about an hour. The castle is well preserved; the internal rooms, located on two floors, are well preserved and full of furniture and works of art; There is also a collection of weapons. Eventually he comes outside to climb a tower and enjoy the view of Lake Bracciano. Guide very prepared.

  • A nice place to visit and it offers some great views to the lake. It's not too big and it was easy to walk through with our 5-year-old.
  • I didn't visit it because in my opinion the ticket is too expensive but it makes a nice picture!
  • Impressive to walk around. a little expensive (8.50 for one single entry without guide) and not much information without guide
  • Amazing typical italian castel!
  • It hasn't changed in the last 400 years I think. Super authentic
