The Messner Mountain Museum or MMM is a museum project created by Italian mountaineer and extreme climber Reinhold Messner in South Tyrol in northern Italy. Messner's museum project is designed to educate visitors on "man's encounter with mountains" and deals with the science of mountains and glaciers, the history of mountaineering and rock climbing, the history of mythical mountains, and the history of mountain-dwelling people. The museum project consists of five museums based at six different locations: Firmian, Juval, Dolomites, Ortles, Ripa and Corones. • The choice of setting up this museum couldn't be more apt. Beautiful castle which most likely would have gone broke or not appreciated as you can see now. The exhibition runs on virtually any surface with stairs and environments set up inside of corner towers. On this I could only criticism having visited in August entando on these structures seemed to get in a greenhouse having no air intake enough to transfer the heat that accumulates during the day, so that it cannot fully enjoy the exposed design. The rest exposed in environments suited to temperatures or outdoors are very nice and comprehensive information on the cultures and traditions of the geographic area to which it refers. The Green is well groomed and neat and a touch of beauty, although not necessary, to the entire complex.

  • The Museum is housed in a historic castle in the history of South Tyrol restored by Reinhold Messner to host the sum of all series of its museums. It ranges from the genesis of the mountains, religion therewith, history and equipment of alpinism, all very well set in the structures of the Castle. Worth the effort to visit it.

  • It is a great place, just a bit mixed up imho; look at what youre interested in and youll be very happy - this is a huge exposition, its impossible to value all the artifacts. Therre different threads all over the place - the didactic intention is mostly obscured. BUT, thats the thing about mountains - you never know whats its all about ... (yourself)
  • Beautiful mountain museum, be aware you have to take lot off stairs. Due to different themes al the museum of Mesner are different and worth wile to visit.
  • Thoughtfully assembled museum examining man's relationship to the the mountains. Highly recommend the audio guide narrated by Reinhold Messner himself.
  • well worth the 10€ entrance fee. spiritual location, great view, interesting exhibition :-)
  • Less a museum than a collection of impressions and reflections it seemed to me. The partly chaotic path (alternative routes) as well as tempting the visitor out of the comfort zone (glass floor, metal grid) are metaphores of the uncertainty of mountains imo and part of the concept.
