  • The road was closed for heavy work and conflicting signs fault we lost 1 hour to find this castle perched on a cliff just outside of the city. Once we're in the parking lot by the River, access is on foot in 5-10 minutes on a slope path paved with pebbles. Difficult for older people, impossible in a wheelchair. More than its architecture, which is the interest of the Castle are many medieval frescoes present in almost all the rooms and passageways, but the colors are less vivid in reality than on the photos and some much less readable images. It is touching to think of all the centuries that separate us from these drawings that expose some aspects of the life of the time, jousts and battles games, clothing, stories of legends... The view from the castle is somewhat marred by power lines and the nearby road that take back us to the 21 century...

  • The Castle situated on a rock above the city is very well preserved, can be reached via the free shuttle from the Walther square or within a 40 min along the Talvera River. Every detail immerses the visitor in the past: the heavy wooden doors, Windows side by side by seats, wooden ceilings. The frescoes, gorgeous, show the life of nobility, idealized by the borghese family friendly that bought the Castle and who aspired to be a part of it and to identify with it: tournaments, games, dances, courtly love, noble couple, the story of Tristan and Isolde. There is also an Inn where stay in this charming atmosphere.

  • The paintings on Runkelstein Castle are touching, beautiful and unique. Definitely visit value! Best with the free shuttle from the Walther square, and then on foot along the Valley promenade in the Centre walk.
