My passion is running and then the portico of San Luca is one of my favorite destinations, advice once you arrive in San Luca a visit to the Basilica and then continue along the road and walk down Via Casaglia. A good walk, almost all downhill and completely immersed in the woods of the Bologna hills

The Basilica itself is superb, but what will is most marked, it is the long passage Arcade, on almost 4 kilometers, to access the sanctuary. We started at the bottom, at the level of the monumental cemetery. Ascension is easy because the slope is quite small and is a few steps from time to time, to progressively increase. We cross many sportsmen who are running. But most of the people work. It is possible to descend in small train (San Luca express) for €6, buying his ticket at the top.

Wonderful construction on the Hill of guard, and guard them, and beautiful the landscape around, it can be reached by car or walk up a thousand steps, not recommended for those suffering from heart, recommended for overweight, I recommend going on foot is hard but you are rewarded by the beauty of the place

  • Picturesque church on top of a hill. The walk up to the church is a good workout (about 30 minutes uphill, in addition to the flat part from the main plaza) and it's amazing to be walking through what seems like an never ending colonnade. The entire path is in the shade, so is doable even on a hot day. Remember to bring water and there are water fountains and toilets at the top.
  • Truly breathtaking views and worth the trek up and down the many stairs. Not too many tourists (like me) to ruin this authentic monument and very peaceful. If your legs are up for it then do the walk from the bottom to the top of the basilica. You won't be disappointed. One of the many beautiful places visited in Italy during my honeymoon
  • The walk along the Portico up to this church is memorable. There's plenty of chill seating outside, and a viewpoint. The church is worth a visit, but do get a ticket to climb the tower. The panorama from the observation deck is fab (beware of ever-changing opening hours in this place!).
  • Old church with a great hilltop view of Bologna. 5€ donation to go up about 110 steps spiralling up to the side of the building. You can see just about everything, half the town and the countryside. Sadly you cannot see why kids like the taste of cinnamon toast crunch from up there. I rate it a 5/7 must see.
  • Wonderful place in Bologna, with nice views up there. It's totally worth the walk. Don't worry if it's raining outside, as you will always walk under archways.
