Set on a hill nearly 300 m (984 ft) high near Bologna, Santuario di Madonna di San Luca features a basilica built over six centuries housing an icon of the Virgin Mary. Pass through 3.5 km (2.17 mi) of roofed arcades built over the basilica's path. The church's ornate interior includes grand pillars and intricate frescoes. • My passion is running and then the portico of San Luca is one of my favorite destinations, advice once you arrive in San Luca a visit to the Basilica and then continue along the road and walk down Via Casaglia. A good walk, almost all downhill and completely immersed in the woods of the Bologna hills

  • The Basilica itself is superb, but what will is most marked, it is the long passage Arcade, on almost 4 kilometers, to access the sanctuary. We started at the bottom, at the level of the monumental cemetery. Ascension is easy because the slope is quite small and is a few steps from time to time, to progressively increase. We cross many sportsmen who are running. But most of the people work. It is possible to descend in small train (San Luca express) for €6, buying his ticket at the top.

  • Wonderful construction on the Hill of guard, and guard them, and beautiful the landscape around, it can be reached by car or walk up a thousand steps, not recommended for those suffering from heart, recommended for overweight, I recommend going on foot is hard but you are rewarded by the beauty of the place

  • If you’re in Bologna - I personally think this is a great thing to do if you have time. Such a beautiful walk up one of the worlds longest Porticos. Took me about 1hr 30mins from the centre of the city. It’s quite a climb with lots of stairs but walking is the best way to do it. Lots of great view points on the way. Once you get to the top you’re greeted by a beautiful church surrounded by lovely gardens. You can go up the top of the church and get a lovely view of the town. Recommend!
  • You need to get a tourist train ride here from piazza Maggiore ( or walk it - lovely yet quite a long walk ) but its totally worth it. The views are absolutely breath taking! A must see!
  • seems far from city centre but definitely worth a visit there are lots of steps so be prepared to spend some energy. bring water and you can refill your bottles at the fountains when you reach the top. they say that there are 666 arches that make up the portico but obviously it's just a "legend" lol to get to even higher spot to have a panoramic view you have to pay a 5 euro
  • A traditional and historical church on the top of the 'Colli Bolognesi'. If you are visiting Bologna you really have to visit this place.
  • Amazing view! The way up is really worth what you will see uphill!
