  • By chance on time at Church to join with the climb of the tower to go up. Great explanation about the construction of the two towers (in each other!), the bells, and how they sound in a special way. After the tower you may also in the vaults. And also a very special explanation about the archaeological excavations and the almost 2000 years of history of Churches on this place.

  • Another beautiful church including massive columns, painted ceiling, simple and ornate side chapels with a stunning altarpiece.  more »
  • Unfairly less famous of San Petronio Basilica but perhaps equally interesting. Located on independence Street a short walk from the heart of the city; comes with its imposing Baroque façade, with a large central portal and two smaller side. The visitor is greeted by two lion statues on big red marble holy water fonts. So how is the baroque interior has three naves, with side seams that have many chapels, divided by the central one by great pillars and arches; on the high altar, surmounted by large vault, is a beautiful wooden crucifix of the twelfth century. One of the most original things are the four balconies (two on each side) seats at the most important chapels: were (and sometimes still are) used by the chorus and housed Tenors, baritones, Sopranos and Altos. But perhaps the most spectacular is the "Lamentation over the dead Christ" bolognese sculptor Alfonso Lombardi in polychrome terracotta (though no trace remains today of the original colors): the seven statues have Renaissance clothing which give a major historical picture about the Decade.

  • Very popular and beautiful catholic church in Bologna. Very glad I stopped to admire and take a closer look at this building.
  • At places offering a good birds' eye view of Bologna, two buildings stand out: the San Petronio, and this Cattedrale Metropolitana di San Pietro. Huge.
  • Incredible church, I was so lucky to unexpectedly find an organ concert when I entered just now: made me disconnect from everything else!
  • Really interesting. Especially the crypt.
  • A much more modern cathedral than most, with stunning marble work on the floors. Worth swinging in to see on your way to the main cathedral.
