  • Although many people think that the Cathedral of Bologna's San Petronio, is actually this, namely St. Peter, located in via Indipendenza, a few steps from Piazza Maggiore. The exterior of the Church is rather lackluster and does not make the idea of the beauty of the Church within. Walk through the threshold, in fact you are in a nice big church Baroque-style Bolognese, with fine chapels and a large central altar. Also noteworthy is the good sculptural group of the lamentation of Lombardi, in the first chapel on the right. Having said that though the Church impresses no architectural and stylistic peculiarities ... is surely valuable yet not have any utility with respect to other churches of the same style. Definitely beautiful, definitely worth seeing, certainly important, but it's not the most original church you find in Bologna
