(4.8/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
Built during the 16th century under orders from the Pope, Archiginnasio is home to an array of books and bibliographical artifacts. Admire the building's intricate architecture as you view the 7,000 different family coats of arms lining its walls, all belonging to former students. Explore nearly 35,000 manuscripts, volumes, and other tomes as you wander through wood-paneled lecture rooms and open-air courtyards. Visit the amphitheater once used to teach anatomy lessons. It's now filled with sculptures of doctors. You must check bags and writing materials at the door. • Passing through Bologna I stumbled upon this structure that serves as a library, but that once contained a major Hall of Anatomy of ' 600, beautiful decorations inside with coats of arms and other important points that make it truly a gem. Entrance is free but you pay for a ticket to visit the anatomical theatre and well worth the trip!

  • Archiginnasio library is located in the heart of Bologna, and is one of the most fascinating places in the entire city. The library is freely accessible (at least for some of its parts), and no one can remain indifferent to corridors with ceilings and walls decorated with family crests and arms around the world. Don't miss the sala Stabat Mater, which contains some ancient texts is a riot of frescoes and heraldic symbols truly incredible. Although we cannot obviously dwell on every single element of painting and architecture of the Archiginnasio, even just a ride "fast" can really leave a mark ... Council to inspect it because it is difficult to describe in words the beauty and uniqueness of this place
