  • A beautiful monastery, well tended by the orthodox rumanian monks that replaced the greek ones. A peaceful place with amazing views on the mountanis around.  more »
  • Town a few kilometres from Stilo, important for its monastery of San Giovanni Theristis, Norman, where art and religion combine to simple a sacred place among the most interesting in Italy. In 1994 he attended the "return" of Greek Orthodox monks from Mount Athos, who refounded the ancient monastery which since 2008 is governed by Romanian Orthodox monks of the diocese. Many years ago had been reduced to ruins, this magnificent example of 11th century monastic architecture, today, recovered, flaunts her stunning structural forms of the Norman period in all their Majesty, as evidence of a glorious past and full of architectural traditions. Bivongi with the old town, offers visitors with atmosphere of other times. During the visit, do not overlook the cascata del Marmarico, a real example of natural and landscape beauty, one of the most spectacular and in Italy.

  • Twenty years ago it was in ruins this magnificent example of Byzantine 11th century monastic architecture, today thanks to a slow and loving recovery returned to live and Saint John, the Reaper (Therestis) will certainly be pleased. Do not hide a certain admiration for the Romanian Orthodox community of Transylvania that has recovered and now lives there by opening it to the public. The Interior was once completely collapsed, but the sanctuary with the handsome drum cupolato, was rebuilt and by entering you can admire a magnificent new iconostasis. Note the outside portions of plaster frescoes that tell us that once all the exterior was painted, something exceptional and unique monastic Byzantine architecture. I highly recommend joining the monastic area covered, both arms and legs and don't talk loudly. Beautiful and not to be missed!
