Piazza Vecchia, Bergamo

(4.8/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
Situated in the heart of Bergamo's upper city, Piazza Vecchia serves as a historic reminder of the town's grandeur. Admire the plaza's classical architecture, displayed in the Palace of Reason, Scamozziano Palace, and marble arcade arches. The square's fountain is adorned with lions that Venice gave to the city in 1780. Several restaurants and cafes serve espresso, traditional regional specialties, and classic Italian pizzas. You can hike to the town, or take the nearby funicular if you'd rather not make the steep trek. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Piazza Vecchia and many more Bergamo attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Bergamo itinerary maker.

  • Old town square is the heart of the medieval part of Bergamo, my home town. One of the most beautiful squares in Italy, an architectural jewel perfectly intact, a scenery of rare beauty. After proceeding via Colleoni, pops up and surprises for the harmony and balance of its ancient buildings, restored to their splendour by recent and wise restorations. From the square, there are small roads that lead to very special corners of one of the best preserved medieval cities of our country. In short, a visit to do and remember forever.
