  • The church is so named because it stands, according to the sources, near a Roman triumphal arch, of which there are no more traces like the rest of the medieval church. The current Baroque appearance and the new north-south orientation are due to Giovanni Battista Caniana, who began work in 1743 and finished them in 1745. In 1805 St Michael ceased his function as a parish and was aggregated to St Alexander's Cathedral, until its desecration in 1955, when it became the repository of magazines of the Capitol Library. The vaults and the dome, by Carlo Innocenzo Carloni made in the three years 1757/60 and depicting archangels, prophets and St. Michael who drive away the rebel angels was recently restored and restored to its original splendor. Unfortunately the church is still the repository of the library's magazines and it is not always easy to visit it.

  • Nominated for the first time in the documents in anno897, was officiated throughout the Middle Ages and underwent the current renovation in the middle of ' 700 on the project of the CANIANA architect and with the pictorial intervention of C.I. CARLONI that fresco ' The Vault with the stories Of the Archangel Michael defeating the rebellious Angels. The church was deconsecrated in 1953 and ceded to the library never to use it as a book store. In recent years the frescoes have been restored thanks to private funds and at the end of the atrium there is a small exhibition. It is certainly surprising that within walking distance there is the entrance of the church itself but it is not allowed to visit it. The whole thing is a bit bizarre and a tad frustrating

  • Would love to see this in the middle of 18 century restructured the oldest church in Bergamo, which comes with 8 centuries. She then rebuilt in the 15 century, became a Benedictine monastery, and now generally closed. So threesome just for the beautiful statue Michael the Archangel, the striking reptile creeping a longer look not at that
