Cappella Colleoni, Bergamo

(4.5/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
After his soldiers destroyed one church, Bartolomeo Colleoni, commander of the Republic of Venice, ordered the construction of Cappella Colleoni on the same site in 1472. The chapel combines Romanesque, medieval, and Gothic styles with a traditional Renaissance structure. The polychrome marble designs in red, white, and black, adorn the outside and embody its extravagance. Admire the exterior, then head inside to browse the collection of 18th-century artwork. You can also visit Colleoni's tomb on the wall facing the entrance. Pictures are not allowed inside. Put Cappella Colleoni on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Bergamo trip itinerary planner.

  • Walking through the historic centre of Bergamo with the family arrived in front of the Colleoni Chapel, we were speechless for a moment it was like taking a trip back in time, no doubt is an architectural work of great value. I highly recommend to visit her because in the same square there are the Cathedral, the cloister, the Museum and the tomb of Gaetano Donizetti preserved inside the Church.

  • Small chapel adjacent to the Basilica, which has probably been reported later the Basilica because we notice its more recent architecture and its façade still in great condition!, she is to visit too like others :)

  • Jewel of Renaissance architecture of our city, example of timeless beauty and elegance. Built as a funerary chapel for the great leader bergamasco Bartolomeo Colleoni. Here it keeps his grave with splendid sarcophagus and Equestrian statue and the most modest and touching his daughter Medea. The Spandrels of the vault frescoes of G.B. Tiepolo depict the virtues.
