Arco di Traiano, Benevento
Categories: Monuments, Tourist Spots
Get a rare snapshot of Roman history at Arco di Traiano, a majestic Roman monument commemorating Emperor Trajan. Since its construction between 114 and 117, the 16 m (54 ft) tall limestone arch has been restored several times, but the original craftsmanship prevails. Its barrel-vaulted archway features entablatures that depict its namesake's triumphs through detailed sculptures and carvings into the stone. Further scenes and allegories of imperial Roman activities are inscribed on the columns. Originally marking the entrance to the city, this impeccably preserved arch stands casting its shadows onto the town below. Arco di Traiano is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Benevento Edition.

Andare a Benevento e non vedere l'arco di Traiano è come andare a Parigi e non vedere la torre Eiffel. SimboloGo to Benevento and not see the Arch of Trajan is like going to Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower. Symbolshow original

The first sight of Benevento is the Arch of Trajan. The monument is the house of history. Below the arch is a museum which showcases the historical importance...
Vincenzo De MariaSpectacular monument, always exciting to see him, the square that houses it seems a corner of Rome, still one of the best preserved triumphal arches.show original
Noemi's worldA bow like that you don't find anywhere parte😍😍😍😍show original
Giuseppe RummoOne of the best preserved Roman triumphal arches. However both the arch that whole Beneventum romana is little valued.show original
Odorisio GalloIf I had to judge the monument and its state of preservation, I would give it five stars. Another bow so you only find in Paris. The Arch of Trajan is majestic, well preserved but sadly overgrown and not valued. There is a historical tableau with a minimum of explanation it that contextualizes the monument, or even artistic. The arch dividing two zones, one exposed to pedestrian traffic, the other that opens directly onto the main course and on what was once the historic city centre with bars, shops and businesses. The square in front of the arch has several restaurants with full respect for the tourist attraction but where there is very little tourism.show original
