i Giardini di Villa Melzi, Bellagio

4.6
A strip of gardens that line the lakeshore on the Bellagio peninsula, i Giardini di Villa Melzi is a manicured landscape that was once the playground of Francesco Melzi d'Eril, duke of Lodi and the vice president of the Italian Republic in the early 19th century. The Neoclassical villa and chapel set off the colors of the garden. A greenhouse, called the orangery, is home to a collection of artifacts from the Napoleonic period and other rare archaeological finds. On the other side of the grounds, bamboo surrounds a chapel to create a place quiet meditation. Common knowledge now of the ticket, the €6.50 better spent. A beautiful garden, nice and clean. Nice to get lost among the paths and discover at every step a different where plants, flowerbeds and flowers are the masters. A skillful and gardeners to work to treat and keep Mistral a park like that and where surely the entrance serves this purpose. I don't think 20 minutes can be enough to visit it. If you are interested in landscape and the Lake, the protagonist of this postcard, an hour to walk around and appreciate nature can suffice ... maybe even more. Be attentive and interested in what this lovely place can donate and avoid falling into the ridiculous tryingto keep you down to an admission fee or a flying visit because the place is small. Small is you with your misleading reviews. Good walk and good fun.

Very nice garden along the Lake and suspended out of time. Pity the villa can be visited. Late in the day, the light is beautiful and allows to take nice pictures. Many old trees, Japanese atmospheres and a very nice Chapel in which lies Mr Melzi.

  • Wonderful garden on lake beach. It must be visited during your Bellagio holiday. Take your time. You will feel a professional photographer....because with any camera colors and landscape will be amazing! Relax and enjoy!
  • Wonderful collection of specimen plants from all over the world, planted long ago and cultivated over time. Best viewed from early to mid April when the thick azalea bushes are blooming (the timing depends on the weather). The villa is still owned by a family and is not open to view. The villa itself has an interesting history. All done in truly refined Italian style.
  • Incredible! Built in 1800s so more access to flora from all over the world. Massive Sequoias from California, Japan, China, pine trees from different parts of Mexico. Luxuriant and peaceful
  • A rather small but very beautiful park!
  • Nice gardens to stop and have lunch in when in Bellagio. Great views over the lake with plenty of seating
