  • Alone is worth a visit in the city of Saint Nicholas, whose famous Basilica is just a few hundred metres across the ancient Village of Bari. Beautiful rose window above the main entrance which is divided by a double Lancet window which in turn is placed above a small recessed newsagent in the face with precision to the West. Within the three naves divided by columns of various colours; at the end of the nave, apse, first on the floor a beautiful circular mosaic where the day of the summer solstice will reflect the Sun's rays through the rose window on the façade of the Cathedral, would rest with pinpoint accuracy. But the real treat is underground: under the Central apse with columns covered with yellow marble crypt with fabulous and wooden arches covered Renaissance flavor Golden times, while in the centre there is an altar covered with silver panels surmounted by a precious icon of the Madonna Odegitria, venerated in Constantinople in the fifth century. Even more under, five meters underground, the remains of the ancient Christian Basilica of the fifth century which in turn is based on the ancient ruins of the Trajan way, visible witness of the second century of the crossing of the thriving village of Bari by the Roman road which crossed lengthwise Puglia up to toast. Ancient mosaics of the late Imperial age were recovered with a painstaking recovery and made available through a metal and plexiglass absolutely compatible with the environment; not least guessed choice chants in the background that make the visit in the precious underground Cathedral.

  • A simple yet elegant Cathedral in its structure with a beautiful interior that rekindles Christianity died down.

  • Visited because you invited to a wedding of acquaintances. It is the Cathedral of Christendom barese, majestic and understated at the same time outside, inside that releases, a sense of religiosity now lost in more. To visit.

  • We only were able to see the outside and it was night time, but it was very beautiful.
  • Well preserved, roman style.
  • The crypt is a total must see.
  • A must see if you visit Bari
  • The Cathedral has carved on the exterior walls the most charming Atlas of Romanesque sculpture. Monsters and animals, floral decorations. Rebuilt after demolition of 1156, its present appearance is the result of twentieth-century interventions. Deserves special mention in the nave floor decoration that recreates the rose window on the façade, the baroque crypt and the archaeological excavation that takes you back to Roman times and discover the largest mosaic of Bari
