  • The sight, vegetation, water and the atmosphere is unique. A place that I entered the heart. Recommend a walk to the lighthouse and a bathroom

  • Capo Zafferano is a small promontory jutting into the sea, near the town of Bagheria. From it, proceeding westward, begins the Gulf of Palermo which overlooks the Conca d'Oro. From Palermo can be reached via the SS 113 by accessing the road that joins him, immediately after the junction to Bagheria. In its vicinity there is the village of Solanto famous for the ancient tonnara is no longer in business. Behind it lies the archaeological site of Solunto, also worth visiting for its historical ruins, in fact, was one of three Phoenician cities together with Panormus and Motya. On the coast of the headland are opening some caves that have yielded bones of Elephas mnaidriensis along with Upper Paleolithic lithic and pottery fragments which can be assimilated to the culture of Castelluccio. One of the first mentions of the promontory, whose etymology can be traced back to Arabic za ' farān, is caused by Camillo Camilliani in 1584. «There's so such rising cliffs that are eminentissime, which form a very high Mount strong around the surface of the head of said Zaffarana et, which is made a pìcciola guard tower. This garment is far from Solanto Castle three miles beneath which is a cave known as dry, and set the Osta of fortresses, below which there is another shortened said the cross for two bregantini et Union joints it you see Cala del Vonico similar to past, and not far the Cala della Palomba with two coves in Mongerbino atte each in two shelter bregantini donar ". From a geological point of view, the headland is an offshoot of Monti di Palermo, resulting from tectonic superposition of two main domains: the platform Panormide platform, limestone and dolomite, and Basin clastic Imerese silico. The promontory of Capo Zafferano and the contiguous Monte Catalfano, with a total area of ca. 321 hectares, have been declared a site of Community importance. Flora: along the coastline, characterised by cliffs under the action of marine aerosol, is setting up a plant communities characterized by endemic Limonium bocconei which are associated with several other entities such as halophytes Crithmum maritimum, Lotus cytisoides and Plantago macrorrhiza. In sublitoranea there is a blemish to dominance of Chamaerops humilis, Pistacia lentiscus and Euphorbia dendroides. Along the cliffs, mostly exposed to the North, is setting up a vegetation rupicola which counts among the various entities of special interest species endemic or phytogeographic which Dianthus rupicola, Iberis semperflorens, Woodruff rupestris and Lithodora rosmarinifolia. Lastly, I note that Capo Zafferano is very close to the most famous blue bow, dubbed Arc of love because a well-known Italian manufacturer of the famous hazelnut Chocolate Kisses There made a famous television advertising campaign ... that all persons over a certain age ... I think I remember with pleasure! Today this place has been visited by the local authority.
