  • At the top there is a castle of Lagopesole, attributed to Federico II and probably built between 1242 and 1250. A peculiarity that distinguishes this from any others attributed to Frederick II of Swabia is the presence within it of a true Church, (only example, among all those dating back to the Roman Empire), in an austere Romanesque style, that the restoration work carried out in the last years of the 20th century have unearthed and delivered to posterity in its original splendor. In the 19th century the castle was a hideout for bandits, led by Carmine "David" Crocco, the 7 April 1861 occupied him with other 400 briganti. On it, as on other castles in lucani, have handed down different legends.

  • In an area of forested hills, climbed up on one of them, stands the Manor of Frederick II, worthy highest rated counterpart to Castel del Monte. After dropping out, here it is nicely restored and open to the public in its almost totality, complete with medieval Archaeological Museum, small and very interesting. Ask staff, knowledgable and helpful, which should be paid better, just like everyone else who we bring passion and pride in their work. Anywhere dominates the silence, broken only by your imagination to imagine the famous Emperor, her attendants, horses, dame, falconers, dogs, gathered here for legendary hunts courteous.
