Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Auronzo di Cadore

Tre Cime di Lavaredo or “the three peaks of Lavaredo” measure up at 3 km (1.9 mi) in elevation. They have long represented a border or a battleground: You’ll still find fortifications, man-made caves, and plaques commemorating World War I in this area. Although these mountains are accessible by toll road, you can experience the best views via excursions on foot. If you don’t have much mountaineering experience, consider the circuit around the base of the peaks. • Worth the money to go to the three peaks! Being fans of mountain trekking and nature lovers we have never considered the idea to go there by car so we just walked. We were there in late October, it was a gorgeous day ... sunny and warm with the leaves changing color already ... it was magical!! We left our car at the Lake Lantorno, it's free and you can leave your car there all day. After crossing the Lake, just before the toll the sign indicates the walk that goes into the Woods and crosses clearings. It passes beneath the pinnacles of the Dolomites and offers a wonderful panorama. The walk from the Lake at Auronzo hut takes about 2 hours. The refuge the view is already wonderful because you can enjoy the view over the Valley of cadore, splendid! When you arrive at the car park then begins the walk to the tre cime di lavaredo last about 3 hours. Initially the walk is flat and then a mini climb leads to the three peaks. It's basically a ring so you can walk all the way around the three peaks and return to the Auronzo hut seeing more different views. The three peaks that you will find yourself behind I suggest you proceed towards the Locatelli hut from which you can see the three peaks even better because you'll just ahead. The trail is a little sbricioloso, I recommend hiking boots and backpack with clothes to be added, the mountain weather changes fast! The shelter in October was closed but having lunch we sat around and had lunch with view towards the three peaks. the refuge there is more wind because more "discovered" so I recommend windbreaker. The path back is very interesting because from the first downhill then a steep climb, a plain and chased a flat walk on a precipice. In total, the Lake, it took us 8 hours including lunch. A wonderful day, really worth it ... have it walk!!

  • The windy road leading up to Tre Cime is a fun and twisty ride. Once you arrive on the top there is a 30 euro fee to park near the mountain. This is a popular location and even in October there were h...  more »
  • It was just too bad, there was no bus more, the road up to it costs quite a lot €30,-for the time of year. All restaurants were closed, no toilet, but .... that all was soon forgotten, what a wonderful environment. We have a round around the large mountain run, all in all, 4 hours. Sometimes very style, but with sticks. Very much enjoyed and lots of pictures, with some food and drink and a warm coat, because on some spots in the shade can be very cold.

  • One of the most beautiful hikes I've ever made. Because it was almost winter, the snow made the area even more awesome.
  • Do not come here during the winter. I wish I did more research before I drove here but the road leading up is closed and you would have to hike for about 2 hours to reach this place, depending on how deep the snow is. I've also read that the path up is prone to avalanches so I wouldn't recommend doing this on your own.
  • Breathtaking view! Just be careful that the street is closed during winter, so we had to walk 2 hours to reach the first hut. But the scenery is awesome and totally worth the walk!
  • So inspiring. A must see! Get there early, spend the whole day. Wear good hiking shoes! Watch for the shadows cast by the rocks.
  • Beautiful mountain peaks, especially at night with the stars all around. Go early as there are droves of tourists from morning onwards.
