  • Arriving in piazza del Duomo hits the impressiveness of the sacred building: eighty-two meters long and twenty-four of height and width; It is besides one of the largest churches of Piedmont, maximum expression of Gothic architecture of the area and can be placed among the greatest examples of Lombard Gothic in Northern Italy. In short, the middle ages is here, as in much of the town of Asti (but since we're not talking middle ages we would like more guidance when you have uscrine for Casale ...) Laterally there has always hit the Pelletta Portal presenting in the frontispiece of the assumption and the angular statues of Saints, including Girolamo, Pietro, Paolo e Biagio, all dating from the late Romanesque Bell Tower Quattrocento.Il dating back to 1266 and was remodelled in the 18th century; contains a concert of nine campaneCitazione inside for "the marriage of the Virgin" dating to the early years of the 16th century, by Gandolfino da Roreto, which was commissioned by bankers Alfieri, the same painter the altarpiece "genealogy of the Virgin" and "the Madonna of the banker (1516); then a "resurrection" (16th-17th century) by Guglielmo Caccia, known as "il Moncalvo" (the city between East and Asti where he had his workshop, the artist was born in Montabone).

  • The first thing that catches your eye when you visit the Cathedral of Asti is the entrance, which is not the case from the main façade but by a portico opening onto the long side overlooking the square. Built with the most classic Piedmontese red brick, used here to create the forms of late Gothic, integrates perfectly with the large medieval center of this town. Also notable is the Bell Tower, in which is inserted a clock that replaces the old Sundial can still be seen. The Interior has been "revisited" and there doesn't seem to be at the height of the building outside ... but you can't have everything!

  • On the edge of town, is located in a square and gutted while deserves to have the space it deserves a true Cathedral. As in other cathedrals entrance is on the long side, precisely because opposite the main entrance is located one street. Sini truly majestic both the exterior and the Interior. Unfortunately the nave and the aisles are completely dark and only lit by large Windows on the sides. The transepts, very interesting, are enlightened in time through a button. Demonstrating the centuries of construction, under the altar you can admire a well-preserved 12th-century mosaic. Worth a visit if you are in Asti, great parking for motorbikes.
