Museo e Foro Romano, Assisi

(280+ reviews on the web)
Ruin
Fronted by towering Corinthian columns, Museo e Foro Romano showcases ancient classical architecture and houses a small interior church. Stop by the grand temple, wedged in between more modern Italian buildings, and marvel at its solid construction and pristine facade, preserved intact from its creation during the first century BCE. Make your way through the stately row of pillars to the church within and you'll be greeted by the ornate decorations, rich paintings, and shimmering gold accents that adorn the walls and ceiling. This inner section was refurbished and modified during the Baroque period in the 17th century. Using our custom trip planner, Assisi attractions like Museo e Foro Romano can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Inside you can see the original roman foundations of this ancient structure. At night, it is lit up very nicely, try to get to the main square to enjoy the view.  more »
  • This museum gives a good idea of the influence of the Romans on the town of Assisi. Really special and very interesting. Well worth a visit!

  • Amazingly extensive underground passages that run along one edge of the old Roman forum, on front of the temple of Minerva. Well displayed stone fragments, tombs, columns, inscriptions. Interesting video ... sadly, only in Italian, with no subtitles.
  • I first visited the Roman Forum x, I have to say it was very interesting, thank goodness that when you walk in they give you a map x understand how was and its functionality. On the main road there is still an original Roman bath house. You can tell when you enter visit the Forum. Continuing the way we meet the Museum, which unfortunately in my opinion is not heavily visited, because people go to visit the Cathedral of St. Francis which lies at the end of this road. A very nice Museum, with interesting paintings. If you go from Assisi can visit ave art gallery

  • is the small part of Assisi underground that you can visit easily. get off a few meters and go back 2000 years when squares were not surrounded by buildings but open to the view of the Valley and the mountains.
