Architectural Building Religious Site
A visit to Duomo di San Rufino will have you at the doors of one of the most important churches in the history of the Franciscan order. It is also famous for being the church in which Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint Clare, and many of their disciples were baptized. The cathedral originated in the 12th century, after the bishop of Assisi had a miraculous vision. The Romanesque facade is a typical example of 12th-century Umbrian churches, and is divided into three levels featuring highly decorative friezes. Visit the famous font inside, and at the same time take a look at the underground crypt, which houses a Roman sarcophagus from the third century. • I believe that Saint Rufino somehow gets forgotten given St. Clare and St. Francis. However, he is the patron Saint of Assisi and this is another Church you need to see on your spiritual pilgrimage  more »

  • Great, if not slightly overrated. I guess you have to be a romantic or religious to really appreciate it, neither of which I am! Still, the scenery is marvellous and it's a great day out. I think it's one of the key places that everyone should visit if you go to Italy as it has real historical significance.
  • This is a beautiful cathedral and the courtyard in front of it is an area where Saint Francis preached.
  • Interesting place to visit during a sightseeing Assisi.
  • Stunning cathedral in a magical place...
  • Worth stopping and checking out
