After 8 weeks in Spain, France, Switzerland, and Italy, I consider this my favorite church experience. I am a "socialized introvert" and need lots of time to myself. Here in the heart of Assisi I disc...  more »

The Church of Santo Stefano is one of the most interesting in Assisi because it is probably the only that has not undergone substantial architectural changes to date (aside from maybe a small niche on the façade) built between the XII and XIII centuries in stone according to the modest and dry forms of the Romanesque style. The Interior has a nave with a wooden ceiling is lit by small Windows. Remains of small frescoes, although without restoration, we can admire on the side walls (a Madonna and child by the school of Giotto and a resurrection). A small church hidden compared to more traditional tourist paths (in fact when we passed there was none) that invites contemplation and bears witness to his time. Tradition has it that this church bells have rung continuously during the agony and death of St Francis. Free access (every day from 9 to 18).

Definitely out from what is the important path of Assisi historical centre, but not interesting to watch. This single-nave Romanesque church with Gothic arches and Bell in the head. A beautiful view from above, from via San Paolo! Simple façade and interior with partial frescoes of 500. A simple Church in every way but where you can collect intimately in prayer. Worth to be found and visited!

  • Return to the room at the Campanile of Saint Francis here rang without force of people and paper. The Bell Tower and the Cathedral where a small down under Stefano in del Rio as the word of the Lord is the quality of the Korean, went into the convent where the same prayer. Opening the door to get into tiny Cathedral, but there were a large number of special feel.
