  • The Church is small and well cared for, was built on the ruins of the House of Francesco (still visible). On the left side of the church there is a cell in which the father kept Francis when the latter made him a sharer of his decisions and choices in life. Below the Church is a visible part of the House-workshop, outside there are bronze statues of the parents of Francis.

  • We found this small church next to an excellent pizzeria called Otello. The inside of the church is beautiful with great photo opportunities. Worth a visit before or after you try the excellent and ve...  more »
  • I hadn't got into this church ... Itself does not have much to see: clean and well taken care of is a nice place of prayer. I enjoyed the altar in scagliola (imitation) placed in the center of the presbytery: better than post-dated things that you see around. The underground part, the remnants of the paternal home of St. Francis: if they don't say anything but beyond appearance, speak of a simple and industrious life, in which Francis grew up and where he wanted to then break away to follow his vocation.

  • This beautiful little church and the square around it was constructed over the area in which Saint Francis' home was located.
  • In 2010, we celebrated our 52nd anniversary in Italy. One of the highlights of the trip was visiting the city of Assisi where we stayed at the Hotel Alexander. We were hoping for a room with a beautiful view, but instead the view was blocked entirely by the huge dome of the "New Church" next door. Then we realized that this WAS the beautiful view! What more could you want than a magnificent ancient dome almost within touching distance! Wonderful memories.
  • Lovely little church, we were lucky enough to get to see and hear the choir Cantori di Assisi here one evening, experience of bear fur nature.

  • Tradition designated the home of St. Francis. In 1615 the Friars Minor, with the financial support of Philip III, King of Spain, turned it into a church.
