  • The Porziuncola was the church founded by St. Francis after his conversion to spirituality, as well as the church in which St. Clare found asylum after her fleeing from her family home. Nowadays this....  more »
  • While in Assisi you must see this basilica as well. It is not of big as St. Francesco, but it’s very beautiful in its own right.  more »
  • While the basilica itself is magnificent, taking over 100 years to build - the Porziuncola was the gem inside that needs to be seen. A contrast between the magnificent architecture of the basilica...  more »

  • This place is amazing! The whole place but especially the little church inside is beautiful! There seems to be Mass at least every hour. If you go to Mass, go to Confession and pray a few prayers (you can find them on a card at the bank of the church) you can get the indulgence St Francis asked the Pope for!
  • Have you ever seen church in church? Not yet? So let's go to the Santa Maria degli Angeli and visit the Basilica. This small village is located close to Assisi and it is the place where San Francisco lived and established Franciscan order. He died just in the small church called Porciunkule which is in the centre of the Basilica. Now it is one of the famous pilgrims aim in Italy.
  • Such a suggestive and emotional place, filled with history and devotion. A tiny brick church within a massive basilica. Worth visiting.
  • What a stunning and beautiful Basilica that honors the conversion of St Francis of Assisi- a church in a church! The small church which was abandoned and surrounded by forest in the days of St Francis is now safely being preserved within the Basilica di Santa Maria de Angels. The paintings downstairs past the rose garden and near the museum store are fabulous with vibrant colors and realistic features. Fantastic!!
  • San Francesco's original chapel is well preserved within this church. The mass was perfect.
