  • This temple is one of the most important monuments of the city and is a good example of Baroque art. Designed by Giuseppe Giosafatti and inspired by the style of Pietro da Cortona and Bernini was built as a votive offering in honor of the patron saint of Ascoli for having preserved the city from the damage of the earthquake of 1703.

  • Erected in honour of the Patron Saint is born as an ex-voto of Abhi to thank St emidius, protector of the earthquake it calls "the caves" because the façade is entirely against the tufa wall of the hill that covers it, is a little displaced from the center of the city, is located on a narrow uphill without exit in a very quiet place where stillness and peace carved into the rock was built in the years between 1717 and 1721 is a remarkable and impressive monument that almost seems unreal, we got lucky because there was the caretaker (very helpful) that has opened for us and made us admire the Interior, cramped aisles, an altar with a statue of the Saint and travertine on the left the tunnel opened in 1943 where he found a small cemetery. A beautiful example of Baroque art and meditation place well worth a visit if you are in Ascoli.

  • The sanctuary, Indeed quite small, is an important place for the history of its Saint. The cave and the adjacent property are well kept by the Association that deals with treating the places of worship of St. emidio, the Association that also takes care of tours (by appointment), also free.
